FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Does Y3 Smiles accept my health fund?
Yes — we accept all major health funds with HICAPS on-site, so you can claim your benefit instantly at the chair. We are also a NIB First Choice provider, which means NIB members may pay reduced fees for many treatments.
What payment plans are available?
We offer flexible payment plan options to help spread the cost of treatment. Speak to our reception team when booking and we can discuss the most suitable arrangement for you. A written quote is always provided before any treatment begins.
Is my child eligible for the CDBS Medicare benefit?
Children aged 2–17 from Medicare-eligible families may be entitled to up to $1,158 in dental benefits over two consecutive calendar years under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). Our team can check your child's eligibility at the time of booking.
What happens when I call for an emergency appointment?
We do our best to see emergency patients the same day. Call us on 03 9022 4442 and let our team know you are in pain or have an urgent concern — we will accommodate you as quickly as possible.
Is root canal treatment painful?
Modern root canal therapy is typically no more uncomfortable than a standard filling. Local anaesthesia is used throughout the procedure to keep you comfortable. Many patients are pleasantly surprised by how manageable the experience is.
How long does a dental implant take from start to finish?
A single dental implant typically takes 3–6 months from placement to the fitting of the final crown, depending on how well you heal and whether any preparatory procedures such as bone grafting are required. Dr Pavel will give you a personalised timeline at consultation.
Crown vs bridge — which is right for me?
A crown restores a single damaged or weakened tooth by capping it. A bridge replaces a missing tooth by anchoring a false tooth to the adjacent natural teeth. Both are excellent, long-lasting solutions — the right choice depends on your specific situation, which we assess at your check-up appointment.
Is professional teeth whitening safe?
Yes. Professional teeth whitening performed by an AHPRA-registered dentist is safe and effective. We use clinically approved whitening agents at carefully controlled concentrations. Over-the-counter products vary considerably in both safety and results.
What are the signs of gum disease?
Common warning signs include bleeding gums when brushing or flossing, persistent bad breath, red or swollen gums, receding gums, tooth sensitivity, and loose teeth. Early-stage gum disease (gingivitis) is often fully reversible with professional treatment — don't delay booking a check-up.
What sedation options are available at Y3 Smiles?
We offer sedation options for patients who experience dental anxiety. Please mention any concerns about anxiety when you book so our team can prepare the right approach for you. Your comfort is a priority.
How do I get a custom mouthguard?
It's simple — book an appointment, we take impressions of your teeth, and your custom mouthguard is typically ready within one week. Custom-fitted guards offer far superior protection and comfort compared to off-the-shelf options.
