Sedation Options
Many patients feel anxious about wisdom teeth removal. At Y3 Smiles Dental, we offer sedation to help you stay calm and comfortable throughout your procedure.
Local Anaesthetic (Standard)
The area is numbed with an injection before the extraction begins. You remain fully awake and aware but should feel no pain — only mild pressure. Suitable for most straightforward extractions. Included in standard extraction pricing.
Happy Gas (Nitrous Oxide)
Inhaled through a small nosepiece, happy gas creates a relaxed, slightly drowsy feeling within minutes. You stay conscious and can respond to the dentist. Effects wear off quickly — most patients can drive home shortly after. Ideal for mild anxiety. Additional fee applies — ask our team.
IV Sedation (Sleep Dentistry)
Administered by a registered sedationist via a small IV line. You enter a deeply relaxed, sleep-like state and will have little to no memory of the procedure. Suitable for patients with moderate-to-severe dental anxiety or complex multi-tooth extractions. A responsible adult must accompany you and drive you home. You must fast before the procedure. Significant additional fee — exact cost confirmed at consultation.
Clinical Note: Sedation suitability depends on your medical history and clinical assessment. Your dentist will discuss all options and recommend the most appropriate approach for your individual needs. This information is general in nature and does not constitute clinical advice.

Wisdom Teeth Removal FAQs
How much does wisdom teeth removal cost in Broadmeadows?
Wisdom teeth surgical removal starts from $350 per tooth at Y3 Smiles Dental. The exact cost depends on how many teeth are removed, their position, and any sedation required. A written quote is always provided at consultation before any treatment begins. Health fund rebates may reduce your out-of-pocket cost.
Do I need to go to hospital to have my wisdom teeth removed?
Not necessarily. Most straightforward and moderately complex wisdom tooth removals can be performed in-chair at our Broadmeadows clinic under local anaesthetic or with sedation. Hospital referral is only recommended for the most complex surgical cases. Your dentist will assess your X-rays and advise the best approach.
Is wisdom teeth removal painful?
The area is numbed before any extraction, so you should not feel pain during the procedure — only mild pressure. Some soreness and swelling in the days following is normal and manageable with over-the-counter pain relief and the post-operative instructions your dentist provides.
What sedation options are available?
We offer local anaesthetic (standard), happy gas (nitrous oxide), and IV sedation (sleep dentistry). The right option depends on your anxiety level, medical history, and the complexity of the procedure. Your dentist will discuss all options with you before anything begins.
How long does recovery take?
Most patients feel noticeably better within a few days and are largely recovered within one to two weeks. Swelling typically peaks around days 2–3. Soft foods are recommended for the first few days.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed. You can call us directly on (03) 9022 4442 or use the booking form on this page to request an appointment.
Does Y3 Smiles accept my health fund for extractions?
Yes. We accept all major health funds and claim on the spot with HICAPS. We are also a NIB First Choice provider. Your fund may provide a rebate toward extraction costs — our team checks your cover at booking.
Do I need an X-ray before wisdom teeth removal?
Yes. An OPG (panoramic dental X-ray) is required to assess the position and roots of your wisdom teeth before any extraction. This helps your dentist plan the safest and most appropriate treatment. We can arrange this at your consultation.
Can I get wisdom teeth removed on the same day?
A prior consultation and X-ray are required before any extraction. In most cases, the extraction is booked as a separate appointment. For emergencies involving severe pain, call us on (03) 9022 4442 and we will do our best to see you the same day.
Where is Y3 Smiles Dental located?
We are at Unit 1, 34 King William St, Broadmeadows VIC 3047 — in the heart of Broadmeadows with free on-site parking and easy access from the Broadmeadows train station.
