The team who will look after you

Y3 Smiles Dental in Broadmeadows is led by principal dentist Dr Fatima Kurnaz, with Dr Javed Mahmud (Dr Pavel), oral health therapist Ranim Ktaifan and dental prosthetist Maria Marriner. Between them they offer care in English, Turkish, Bangla, Arabic and Tagalog, and our support team also speaks Arabic and Turkish.

Dr Fatima Kurnaz

Dr Fatima Kurnaz is the principal dentist and founder of Y3 Smiles Dental in Broadmeadows. She holds a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Melbourne and is registered with AHPRA (DEN0001925511). After graduating in 2014 she worked in the Northern Territory, where she became Senior Dentist and Clinical Manager at the special needs dental clinic at Royal Darwin Hospital, before returning to Melbourne in 2019. She grew up in Broadmeadows, speaks Turkish and English, and sees adults, children and families for general dental care. She has a particular interest in clear aligners, veneers and smile makeovers, planned conservatively so that as much natural tooth as possible is kept. Patients who feel anxious about the dentist, at any age, are welcome.

Dr Javed Mahmud (Dr Pavel)

Dr Javed Mahmud, known to patients as Dr Pavel, has more than 25 years' experience in dentistry. He completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2000 and a Master of Surgery in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2006. After passing the Australian Dental Council examinations, he has treated patients in Victoria since 2015. His main interests are dental implants, oral surgery including wisdom teeth, bone and soft tissue grafting, and restoring damaged teeth. Every appointment starts with listening. He'll ask what you'd like to achieve, explain your options in plain language and plan treatment that suits you. He speaks English and Bangla.

Ranim Ktaifan

Ranim Ktaifan is the oral health therapist at Y3 Smiles Dental. Oral health therapists are registered dental practitioners who focus on keeping teeth and gums healthy: check-ups, cleans, preventive care and practical advice you can use at home. Ranim works alongside our dentists, so if you need treatment outside her scope, she'll arrange it with them. She is registered with the Dental Board of Australia and speaks English and Arabic. If you'd like to talk through your care in Arabic, tell us when you book.

Dental Prosthetist

Maria Marriner

Maria Marriner is the dental prosthetist at Y3 Smiles Dental. She completed an Advanced Diploma of Dental Prosthetics at RMIT University and has worked in dental prosthetics since 2005. Maria hand crafts every denture for our patients herself, and all our dentures are made in Australia. She starts by listening: how you'd like your denture to look and feel, and what matters to you when you eat, speak and smile. Then she balances those preferences with what the denture needs to work well, paying close attention to the fine details of fit and finish. She speaks English and Tagalog (Filipino).

Our front desk and support team look after bookings, health fund claims and making you comfortable. Between them, they speak English, Arabic and Turkish. Language support depends on who is working that day, so if you'd like help in your language, tell us when you book.

Can I choose who I see?

Yes. Tell us when you book. We'll arrange it where the schedule allows.

Can I see a female dentist?

Dr Fatima Kurnaz is our principal dentist. If you would prefer to see a female dentist, let us know when you book and we will arrange your appointment with her.

How can I check a dentist's registration?

Every dentist, oral health therapist and dental prosthetist in Australia must be registered with the Dental Board of Australia. You can search the public register at ahpra.gov.au using the registration numbers on this page.

What does a dental prosthetist do?

A dental prosthetist is a registered dental practitioner trained to make, fit and repair dentures. Maria Marriner looks after all denture work at Y3 Smiles Dental and works with our dentists when you need other treatment first.

What does an oral health therapist do?

An oral health therapist is a registered dental practitioner who focuses on keeping teeth and gums healthy, including check-ups, cleans and preventive care. They work with our dentists, who look after treatment outside that scope.
