Why do regular check-ups matter?
Most dental problems start quietly. Early decay often doesn't hurt, and gum disease is largely painless in its early stages, so many people don't know they have it until it's well advanced. A regular check-up is how those problems get found while they're small and simpler to treat.
A professional clean also removes the plaque and tartar that brushing and flossing miss. That helps keep your gums healthy, which protects the bone that holds your teeth in place.
How often should you have a check-up?
Most people benefit from a check-up and clean every six months. That isn't right for everyone, though. People with a history of gum disease, diabetes, dry mouth from medicines, lots of existing fillings, or who are pregnant or in orthodontic treatment may need to come more often. People with very low risk may be able to come less often. Your dentist will recommend a recall that suits you.
What's included in a check-up at Y3 Smiles Dental?
A comprehensive check-up and clean includes an examination of your teeth, gums and mouth, oral cancer and pathology screening, a gum assessment, intraoral photos, x-rays as necessary, a professional scale and clean, fluoride treatment, and a personalised quote and treatment plan. The full breakdown is on our check-up and clean page, and check-up costs explains the fees.
Do you look after children too?
Yes. Children have their own check-ups, and eligible children may be covered under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, which we bulk bill. Our children's dentistry page has more.
Who will you see?

Is Y3 Smiles Dental a family dentist?
Yes. We look after adults and children, from first dental visits through to check-ups, fillings and gum care for grandparents.
Do I need a referral to see a general dentist?
No. You can book directly online or by calling (03) 9022 4442.
