New patients

Your first visit to Y3 Smiles Dental

Your first visit is usually a new patient comprehensive check-up and clean, $229. We get to know you, examine your teeth and gums, take photos and x-rays as needed, clean your teeth, and give you a personalised plan. Arrive about 15 minutes early.

What should I bring?

  • Photo ID
  • Your Medicare card and health fund card, if you have them
  • A list of any medicines you take
  • Previous dental records or x-rays, if you have them
  • Any patient forms we've sent you, filled in

What happens when I arrive?

  1. Welcome and check-in

Our reception team greets you and helps with any paperwork.

  2. Getting to know you

Your dentist talks with you about your dental history, your health, any concerns and what you'd like to achieve. Tell us if you are pregnant, or think you might be, even if you have not told anyone else yet. It changes how an appointment is planned rather than whether it happens: see dental care during pregnancy. If you are planning a pregnancy, a first visit now is a good time to get anything outstanding sorted: our pre-pregnancy dental checklist says what to look at.

  3. Comprehensive check-up and clean

A thorough examination, photos and x-rays as needed, and a professional scale and clean.

  4. Your plan

We explain what we found and give you a personalised quote and treatment plan.

What's included in the new patient check-up?

  • Comprehensive oral examination
  • Oral cancer and pathology screening
  • Gum assessment
  • Intraoral photos
  • Intraoral x-rays (as necessary)
  • Full mouth x-ray (as necessary)
  • Professional scale and clean
  • Fluoride treatment
  • Personalised quote and treatment plan

Health funds are claimed on the spot through HICAPS. See check-up costs for more, including the routine check-up and children's visits.

What if I'm nervous?

Tell us when you book and again when you arrive. We'll go at your pace, explain everything before we do it, and stop whenever you need. There's no rushing and no lecture, however long it's been. Principal dentist Dr Fatima Kurnaz has a particular focus on anxious patients.

If being asleep for it is what you have in mind, that can be arranged: sedation and sleep dentistry explains how it works, and why it is booked in advance rather than decided on the day.

Where do I park?

Free, unmetered street parking right out the front on King William Street. We also have two parking bays directly behind the clinic: take the driveway off King William Street beside the clinic, then the lane behind the shops. Visitor and accessible parking is spread around the precinct too. The clinic is on ground level. About a 10-minute walk from Broadmeadows train station: take the underpass to Railway Crescent, walk north, and turn right into King William Street. See contact and directions.

Tips for your first visit

  • Brush and floss as normal beforehand.
  • Write down any questions or things you've noticed, like sensitivity or bleeding gums.
  • Let us know about any anxiety or special needs when you book.
